so e fusively and that's chris christie. they got aboard marine one. administrator fugate was with them. they traveled about an hour. long beach island, ship bottom, seaside heights, seaside heights, in particular, as we have seen from our media helicopters hit particularly hard. the president has landed on the way now to a community center that's sheltered as many as 200 at the worst part of the storm at a place outside of atlantic city. there we expect the president to tour the shelter, helping out those in distress and then make a statement, steve. i think we can expect the president to try to project calm, concern, empathy, authority if you will. what we'll not see the president project is any sort of overt political age toll this. this is all very serious and chris christie by his side as he had all afternoon. >> it's still tore and talk about the tone of the president today, not overtly political. everything is politicized with chris christie who's very emotional in the situation. this is the jersey of his youth be destroyed. >> reporter: right. >> how does the president deal

buried in the sand and governor chris christie who toured the destruction with president obama said some parts of the shore may never look the same again. >> the death toll reached 124 people with 56 in the united states. at least 28 in new york. and close to 5 million customers are still waiting for the power to come back on. >> cnn has the entire disaster zone covered this morning. our correspondents spanned out across lower manhattan and all up and down the jersey shore. >> first, the economic capital of our country is slowly getting back to normal this morning even while facing extreme damage. power outages and people having to walk for hours just to get to work. meantime, another hospital lost generator power in lower manhattan. right now hundreds of people are being pushed out of bellevue after hundreds of others were evacuated yesterday. our dr. sanjay gupta is live at bellevue but first to rob marciano. the governor says there will be no fares for subways, trains and buses but many of the bus and subway lines are still not up and running yet so how limited is transportation now?

christie says four shore times are devastated. >> houses are moved off of the foundation, houses are in the middle of route 35. the amusement pier at seaside park half washed out. the roller coaster is now in the ocean. the level of devastation is unthinkable. >>neil: unthinkable and for now irreparable and it is not over yet. rick? rick: the damage to point pleasant beach are stunning and sad. this town was not the worst hit by far. the boardwalk in some sections is completely destroyed and this ocean front hotel, the white sands half a million in damages. the deck is torn up. the restaurant is trashed. fences have come down. believe it or not, this is the swimming pool. it is filled with sand that came off the beach that made up the dunes they thought protected the homes, wiped out and pushed this way. you can see more damages here. the sand in the street is on ocean avenue and if you look down along the coast, you will see maybe a rescue helicopter and, also, homes that suffered significant damage, the gray house with the front of it ripped off and a number of houses like that and we

everywhere because it cannot be. governor christie postponed it. it will be moved to monday, november 5th to protect new jersey's young trick or treaters. crews were fixes falling power lines. nearly two million households in new jersey are still without electricity today. in reference of how much of the country that means, even if there was one person in each household without pour, even if it was just one, it would mean there are more people in day three of no power in just new jersey than the population of each of these states marked on the map. this is a huge number of americans here. it's nots over, it's not done, it's not past tense. widespread flooding is still present. we talked about hoboken last night. it's directly across the hudson river. it's small but has 50,000 people in it. as of last night, the mayor told through was as much as 20,000 people still stranded in deep, impassable, and increasingly polluted flood waters. the national guard did get to some of those people. we'll have more about that dramatic situation in just a moment. the national guard also arrived in swa
